Coach Turner Edwards - Martinsville

Cloudy:

Here with Coach Edwards, Turner Edwards, the head boys basketball coach over at Martinsville. Coach, very tough loss tonight to a state ranked Laneville team. What is your message to your guys after a heartbreaking loss like that?

Coach Edwards:

We just told them to keep going. I mean, well, it's not the 1980s. The only one team don't make the playoffs. And we can still go get another banner and go to the regional tournament. And this group's my most resilient group I've had.  So I think they know the message clear and they're just a bad matchup. And now we'll go make our run through the other side of the bracket and hopefully meet them a third time. Yes, sir. And speaking of that, you guys, of course, made a reasonable tournament appearance last year.

Cloudy:

What is your message to the guys going forward about the playoffs? Does seeding matter to you guys or just want to get in and play whoever comes?

Edwards: We will play anybody state ranked or not; they better be ready when they show up. We played a tough pre district tons of teams in 3A & 2A.  So our guys are ready for it. They know big games happen and we're gonna have to execute down the stretch a little bit better than we did tonight. But with this group, they've been there and they know what it takes to get back.

Cloudy:

Yes, sir. Speaking of being there, Bernie, is he a senior coach? (Edwards; He's a junior. ) He's a junior, man. I feel like he's been here forever. And he does not disappoint when he's on the floor. And tonight he put up another huge performance.  What are your thoughts on his game tonight?

Edwards:

He's a gym rat. I mean, he broke his hand. He wasn't even supposed to be back until about now. So he came back four weeks early and he gives it his all. He's one of our only guys returning from last year. And he leads by example. And I thought he was undersized, but he put up a double -double. So I was proud of him.

Cloudy:

Yeah, he played extremely hard. Ribas as well, coach, any thoughts on his game tonight? I know he kind of struggled in the second half, but man, he is special. And he gives you guys a little oomph to what you already had.

Edwards:

His style is completely different than he's from overseas. I thought they really sold out on him in the second half.  And it kind of got him a little flustered. But in the first half, just like in a lot of games this year, if we didn't have him, we wouldn't be in the game. So I think he's learning as we go, new environment. I think he'll be ready to go.

Cloudy:

Yes, sir, appreciate you, coach. Good luck moving forward.

Edwards:

Thank you, sir.
